Freelancing is hard. You are your own boss, in control of your time, and yet…. Do you ever have an aspect of your freelancing take over your life and interfere with your productivity? This is the story of what has taken over mine in the last few weeks and how I’m coping.

It started with the butterflies.

I found Question Mark butterflies and caterpillars outside my window, now living on my desk. Then I attempted to take care of a hornworm (aka Spinx Moth caterpillar), so I could watch it metamorphize — which failed, but now I have another one that has made a burrow for itself, so fingers crossed.

Now I can’t go outside without seeing Question Mark pupae. They are everywhere. On the East door of the studio. The back garden gate. Even on the window frame of my window.

Now I am sacrificing my dill plants in the hope of photographing the 5 instars of the black swallowtail caterpillar and (fingers crossed again) watching them pupate and letting them overwinter on my desk.
